A Cherished Tradition
For nearly 30 years, Christmas in the Square, organized by the Hingham Downtown Association, has been a cherished tradition for families in Hingham and the South Shore. One of the highlights of Christmas in the Square is the Hingham Mothers's Club Festival of
Trees, a magical display of decorated trees, gingerbread houses, and wreaths generously provided by
businesses and individuals.
Since 2002, when the HMC hosted the first
Festival of Trees, funds raised from the event have benefited local
charities. This past year, the decorated trees were sold at a silent and live auction at the Treeview Party on Thursday, December 1, 2011, and by silent auction during the public presentation of the trees on Festival of Trees on Friday, December 2, 2011.
Festival of Trees proceeds support the HMC's
Scholarship Fund and the Friends of the Homeless of the South
Shore. Headquartered in Hingham, Friends of the Homeless helps families by providing them with food, clothing, furniture, shelter,
education, and advocacy.
